Questions From Families

FAQ

Straightforward answers for families considering Cub Scout Pack 25 in Waterloo, Iowa.

What ages can join?

Cub Scouting is generally for elementary-aged youth. Pack 25 uses grade-level dens from kindergarten (Lions) through fifth grade (Arrow of Light).

Does my child need outdoor experience?

No. Cub Scouting is designed to help kids learn new skills step by step with family and volunteer support.

Do parents stay at meetings?

Yes. Pack 25 is a Family Scouting Pack, and parents or guardians should expect to stay, participate, and support their scout.

How often does the pack meet?

Pack 25 typically meets the first and third Sundays of each month at 6:00 PM in the St. Edwards School gym in Waterloo, Iowa. Meeting dates sometimes change due to holidays and scheduled activities, so check the pack schedule on the home page for the latest updates.

How much does Cub Scouts cost?

The yearly registration fee with the pack is $135, which covers BSA registration, the council program fee, a handbook, a class B pack t-shirt, and a Pinewood Derby kit. Uniform costs run approximately $67–$75 depending on the shirt selected, plus optional items like caps and belts. Families can help offset costs through the pack's monthly pop can drive and the Winnebago Council popcorn sale. We do not want cost to prevent anyone from being a Cub Scout — please talk with a leader if your family needs help.

What uniform is needed?

Pack 25 uses the blue field uniform for Tigers, Wolves, and Bears, and the tan uniform for Webelos and Arrow of Light scouts. Lions (kindergarten) wear a Lion t-shirt instead. Uniforms and accessories are available at the Winnebago Scout Shop, 2929 Airport Blvd, Waterloo. See the uniform page for details, or ask a leader about financial help before buying.

Can siblings attend?

Many pack events are family-centered. Ask pack leadership for event-specific expectations, especially for outings or activities with space limits.

Are campouts family events?

Pack campouts are generally family-centered and planned with age-appropriate participation. Families receive event details through the pack's regular communications, text alerts, and email alerts.
