Cub Scout Pack 3025 Waterloo (Pack 25)
Each scout has an account that is maintained with the Pack. (Please note that the terms Scout accounts, Pack accounts, and individual accounts are used interchangeably and refer to funds retained by the Pack for use by the scout to fund their scouting activities.)
A scout’s share of the profits from a fundraiser is transferred into the Scout Accounts by the Pack Treasurer after a fundraiser is completed. A scout may request funds from his account at any time to pay only for scout‑related expenses such as outings (including pack campouts, day camps, and summer camp) and the purchase of clothing and equipment from the Scout office.
Parents may also make a deposit to their scout’s account at any time for the same uses, or to maintain a non‑zero balance. Any remaining balance in a scout’s account is forfeited to the Pack if a scout becomes inactive or quits Scouting for more than one continuous year. Scouts transferring to another unit should have their new Pack or Troop treasurer contact our Treasurer to arrange a transfer of their account funds.
Scout accounts are administered by the Pack and are maintained as part of our bank account. The Winnebago Scout Office and Scout Shop have no knowledge of, and no access to, our Pack's scout accounts.
How does it work?
Pop can proceeds are split between the pack and the family members that volunteer for the can drives. 2/3 of the proceeds are credited to scout accounts and 1/3 is retained by the pack for operating expenses.
The 2/3 portion is prorated among those that work at the can drives based on the amount of time they are working. Everyone signs in and out to determine the number of minutes they work. All the minutes are totaled, and each person receives a prorated share of the 2/3 portion. For example, if:
Shares may be earned by cub scouts of our pack and their parents. Siblings are welcome to help, but will not count towards scout account shares. Any exceptions to this must be approved by at least two members of senior pack leadership (cubmaster, assistant cubmaster, committee chair, secretary/treasurer) before the can drive in question.
This process of prorating can drive proceeds is documented in parents meeting minutes from April 12, 2021. The 2/3 share to scout accounts is described in the minutes from August 13, 2018.
